Religious Education Office Hours
Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-12:00 noon and again from 12:45-5:30 p.m. The office is closed on Fridays.
San Rafael Parish provides ongoing faith formation programs for its parishioners through: The Sunday Pre-School Ministry (Ages 3-5) The Religious Education Program (Grades 1-5) Sacramental Preparation (Penance and Holy Eucharist) Kids’ Word (Liturgy of the Word for children Grades 1-5).
Faith Formation of Children Pre-K to Grade 5
The faith formation or catechesis of any individual begins in childhood and ends at death. A child’s first teachers are his/her parents and family members. His/her ongoing faith formation continues when he/she enrolls in school or in the parish religious education class.
Kids’ Word | The children’s Liturgy of the Word occurs during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays from September through late May. Children in grades 1-5 leave the church for their opening of the Word on their appropriate age level. Catechists guide them through the Word with various activities and end with the Creed and the Prayer of the Faithful. The children return to the church at the Offertory of the Mass.
Sunday Pre-School Ministry | The Sunday Preschool program provides appropriate religious activities for children ages 3-5 coordinated by our catechists. Classes are held every Sunday from 10:30 to 11 :30 a.m., in Classrooms 1-4 which are located on the lower level of the Parish Center.
Religious Education Grades 1-5 | Grades 1-5 meet weekly after school in the Parish Center classrooms, from Monday through Wednesday afternoons between 4:00 and 5:15 p.m. On Thursdays another session is offered from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m.
Sacramental Preparation | Our Sacramental classes prepare our students for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This is a two-year program in which the children learn their prayers, become acquainted with Jesus and learn about God’s love for us through the sacraments. Sometimes an older child is late in his/her preparation for the sacraments. During his/her first year, he/she is enrolled in a regular class. In the following year he/she enrolls in the Sacramental Preparation class.
2018-2019 Religious Education Class Registration
Online Enrollment is now closed for all new and returning students for the 2018-2019 school year. If you still need to register your child, you may download the Religious Education Grades 1-12 Registration Form and print the form, fill it out and bring it to the Religious Education Office to pay your fees in person. Or, you may come in person to the Religious Education Office to fill out the forms and pay your fees.
New students not baptized at San Rafael, please email us a copy of their baptismal certificate.
PLEASE NOTE: Un-baptized children or those baptized in another faith: Please register but it is imperative that we are informed as these students will need to be placed in the Rite of Christian Initiation. Finally, in special cases there is the possibility of homeschooling. Please contact Quyen Skiano (Grades 1-5) to discuss that option.

Grades 1-12 Fees (all inclusive)
One Child = $145.00; Two Children = $185.00; and Three or More Children = $205.00.
There is an additional $50.00 per child for those children who will receive FIRST COMMUNION.
PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION | You can still register for preschool (ages 3-Kinder) classes! Classes are held during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays in classrooms 1 and 2. Please register in the Religious Education Office.
$40.00 for one child, $60.00 for two, and $75.00 for three or more children.

Religious Education News & Announcements
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED | The wonderful Sacrament of First Holy Communion is approaching quickly for our 2nd year students who have been preparing abundantly. After First Communion we hold a small reception for the students and their families. There are 71 students receiving the Sacrament this year! As you can imagine it takes a Holy village to make it all happen. First Holy Communion is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th and decoration of the hall takes place the Friday before. We have included the link to the volunteer sign up list that provides more details about the volunteer opportunities available.
